• IAME USA Announces Trade In Program to Further Unify North American Karting

iame IAME USA (East and West) have collaborated with IAME S.P.A., MG Tires, and related parties to bring stability to the North American karting marketplace.

“It’s no secret,” remarked Eric Jones of IAME USA East. “Many karting engine manufacturers and race promotion entities have either closed up shop or created an unsustainable business model. Our goal was to address this head on, in every way imaginable. Economics aside, the IAME platform also represents a truly universal competition medium. There are literally dozens of clubs, series, and championships a customer can race using the very same product.”

Throughout the last couple weeks, principles of IAME USA, IAME SPA, MG Tires Brazil, and other key constituents have convened to outline a concrete structure in the North American continent. One that is stable, secure, and most of all economically sound.

“We’re excited to introduce a viable trade in program for every karter in America,” remarked IAME USA West Principal Tom Kutscher. “We believe heavily in the IAME product and we know it will succeed in serving the North American karting consumer for decades to come.”

Gulf Coast Kartway played host to start of official SKUSA regional and US Rotax Max Challenge program on April 10-12

KATY, TX (April 17, 2015) – The 2015 Burger King®/Texas Barge ProKart Challenge series - presented by 3G Kart Racing, Dallas Karting Complex and IAME USA West - got underway this past weekend (April 10-12) at the Gulf Coast Kartway in Katy, Texas. Over 100 entries made up the Superkarts! USA and US Rotax Max Challenge categories offered for the regional traveling program. Challenging weather conditions kept the competitors on their toes, with a mix of dry and wet weather all day Saturday, followed by a wet morning qualifying session before the track remained dry to close out Sunday's action.

TPKC Dallas Karting Complex2014 gets underway for the Texas ProKart Challenge at the Dallas Karting Complex on April 25-27 (Photo: dallaskartingcomplex.com)

This weekend marks the opening of the third season for the continually growing Texas ProKart Challenge – presented by 3G Kart Racing/Burger King®/Chase Racing/Dallas Karting Complex/Fernelius Alvarez Attorneys. Fulfilling the need for a strong regional program in the LoneStarState, series director Dave Pauly established a program combining the United States Rotax Max Challenge and Superkarts! USA categories under one banner. Since 2012, the series has experience expansion with every event and this year's awards package is scheduled to reach over $30,000 in cash and prizes. The third season for the Texas PKC will start this coming weekend (April 25-27) at the Dallas Karting Complex, located in Caddo Mills, Texas.

The opening weekend of the season is, and has been shaping to be an incredible kick off to 2014. Entry lists in all categories are stacked, continues to grow to record numbers as the race weekend approaches. The series was reduced to eight rounds of racing this year, compared to a 10-race program in 2013, making each round crucial to the regional racers looking to secure a series championship. Added to this year's opening rounds is the addition of many Superkarts! USA Pro Tour competitors from outside the region, as the event serves as a tune-up event for next weekend's SKUSA SpringNationals.

2013 featured incredible battles for race wins, and season long championship campaigns. This coming weekend will be the fresh start, the new beginning that many Texas PKC racers have been waiting the whole off-season for. Chris Jennings and Jordon Musser put on arguably the most intense championship battle in 2013. The longtime friends and S4 Master Stock Moto competitors went toe-to-toe for the entire season with Jennings edging Musser out for the title. S2 Semi-Pro Stock Moto champion Ryan Kinnear will not be on the defensive, but rather the offensive as he now joins the S1 Pro Stock Moto ranks this year as the class returns with a number of drivers graduating up from the Texas region. Also moving up the ladder are 2013 champions Nathan Adds (S5 Junior) and Max Hewitt (TaG Cadet), leaving those competitive divisions open for new title winners. Michael Bartholomew will return to Dallas to mount his TaG Senior championship defense in what was a popular class last season.

The second half of the Texas PKC program is the Burger King® Rotax Max Challenge – as part of the United States Rotax Max Challenge. Racers in the Rotax categories earn punches toward the US Rotax Grand Nationals, with the 2014 event slated for a return to the MillerMotorsportsPark in Tooele, Utah on July 17-20. Double champion Alex Tartaglia (Rotax Senior/DD2) will step away from Rotax portion this season, leaving the door open in both categories. The DD2 program at the Texas PKC is among the largest in the country, with a host of previous championship contenders looking to step up to the top. The Masters group will continue chasing Lance Lehrman, who scored the championship last October. Moving up to Rotax Senior is last year's Junior champion Jesse Woodyard, as he's among the favorites in 2014. The same can be said for 2013 Mini Max champion Parker Chase. The Junior class is among the most talented in the United States, with a host of drivers gearing for a championship run. Both the Mini and Micro Max divisions will one again hit double-digit numbers at the opening event.

Pre-entry registration for the opening weekend concluded Sunday night, April 20 with the numbers reaching the highest ever for the Texas ProKart Challenge. Competitors who did not take advantage of the early signup will now register for the weekend upon arriving at DKC. Official practice begins Friday with Round One scheduled for Saturday and Round Two on Sunday. Each day of competition will include a warm-up session, followed by qualifying, two heat races and a main event.

The more than $30,000 prize package scheduled for the year-end awards ceremony following the completion of the 2014 Texas ProKart Challenge has grown thanks to the numerous industry members supporting the program this year. Chase Racing signed on as a series presenting sponsor in 2014, with the following adding in their support as class sponsors: Champion Racing/Intrepid, Pole Position/DR Kart, RPM Race Karts, HPD Honda, SwedeTech Racing Engines, Kart Life, Motul, Dreams Captured Photography, Ribtect, Enertech, and Gaddy Web Design.

  • IAME X30 Engine Update: Approved for SKUSA Competition Starting 6/1/14

Texas ProKart Challenge TaG Senior and TaG Master racers please note the following tech bulletin from John Motley the SKUSA National Technical Director

    IAME X30 Engine

    April 2nd, 2014

We have been evaluating this engine for some time. In addition to conducting our own independent research,   we have been following the experience of other series.

Here are our findings – as well as our current plans – for this engine in SKUSA competition, as of today April 2, 2014:

    • While it is similar in performance to the existing Leopard and Leopard 09, its characteristics do favor some track configurations.
    • The crankshaft redesign and balancer shaft significantly improve reliability.
    • Lower rev limiter adds to improved reliability and lengthens rebuild time.

This engine has been approved for SKUSA competition effective June 1, 2014, for the TaG Senior and TaG Master classes only.At this time it is our intent to have the TaG Junior class remain a Leopard-only class through 2015. This helps provide a market to sell existing Leopard engines for Senior or Master drivers who want to switch to the X30. Initially the X30 engine will have a minimum weight 20 lbs. above the Leopard weights – thus the X30 will be at 375 lbs for TaG Senior and  405 lbs for TaG Master.

Please keep in mind that the SKUSA rules allow us to adjust weights at any time to balance competition.

Complete technical specifications will posted on the SKUSA website soon.

    John Motley
    SKUSA National Technical Director

  • Technical Bulletin: Mini Max "Rev-Limiter"

    April 18, 2013

Rotax Mini Max Rev LimiterThe Mini Max "Rev-Limiter" is required in the Texas ProKart Challenge Series. Josh Smith from Rotax will be at the DKC event with the Rev-Limiters on hand for anyone that needs one.

The Maxspeed Group distributed the "Rev Limiter", during the premier winter series with great success. The news spread quickly and many of the USRMC series have been asking to mandate the device at their series. This devise has successfully terminated the so called "turbo effect" with little to no major modifications.

Josh Smith has informed us that Mini Max Rev-Limiters will be required at the US Rotax Grand Nationals and the Pan American Challenge races.

The device is to be installed in between the wire harness and the ignition coil. It is highly recommended to mount the "Rev-Limiter" using Velcro, and attach it to the side of the ignition coil. Also zip ties can be used as a secondary precaution to hold the device in place. These devices will have to be installed prior to declarations and must be inspected by the scrutineers for serial number and proper mounting.

The device issued to that kart/driver, must be the same device used for that kart/driver.
